About Kazi

Ib’nallah S. Kazi is the founder of My Body Temple – Health, Fitness and Adventure, a service that employs lifestyle transformation as a catalyst for self-healing and personal development.

My approach to wellness focuses on guiding you on the journey of clarifying your relationship to the six natural healers in your life: nutrition, exercise, sleep, detoxification, self-awareness and social support. Once clarified, we can then gently introduce the systems and strategies that will turn your lifestyle into your medicine.

Our private coaching services are complimented by experiential workshops and retreats that provide you with opportunities to discover, practice and experiment with physical, creative and emotional inner resources you were previously unaware of. Resources that are key to creating a healthy, wealthy and wise future.

My skills and passion as a health practitioner/educator is the culmination of my diverse, yet integrated history in education, community activism and career experience:

  • BA- Psychology, Adelphi University, 1981, Garden City, NY
  • Managing Editor, The Word, National Newspaper, Nation of Gods & Earths
  • Family Counselor, Homes for the Homeless, Jamaica, NY
  • Youth Organizer, Male Adolescent Rites of Passage Founder-Mentor, Jamaica, NY
  • Public Speaker, Workshop Facilitator, US.
  • Co-founder Harriet Tubman Hiking Society, NY
  • Secretary, Board of Directors, The Afrikan Poetry Theatre, Jamaica, NY
  • Teacher, New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY
  • Health Educator, Research Project Director – Prostate Cancer, Columbia University School of Public Health – Harlem Hospital Center, New York, NY

After attending Adelphi University I began my journey of exploration into alternative medicine as a means of health maintenance and disease prevention for myself and my family.

In 1990, while attending a spiritual retreat on the beautiful island of Tobago, I was introduced to the ancient, internal, self-healing arts of ‘Ancestral Meditation Medicine’ and ‘Qi Gong’, by Self Healing Master Educator – Brother Isma’el Jamal. The soul evolving catalyst of this practice initiated a life transforming process which guides my personal self healing journey to this day.

Founding the Harriet Tubman Hiking Society in 1992, with my hiking partner Sala Nolan, we introduced many African Americans to the benefits of hiking, backpacking, foraging and communing directly with nature in her wilderness. Through a system of seasonal Wilderness Retreats™, I have initiated many concrete natives into certified tree hugging nature lovers.

Around 1994, I began training in the medicinal martial art- Yara Mba under the guidance of Onisegun Professor Milford Graves at the International Center for Scientific and Medicinal Studies, located in Jamaica, Queens. The training was a working integration of meridian medicine, herbal medicine, gardening, medicinal martial dance, physical conditioning, music therapy and oral tradition. At this same time I trained in Yang Tai Chi Chuan (short form) with Master Yusef Bey.

To begin the process of transforming my self healing lifestyle into a vocation, I attended the Academy for Applied Personal Training Education at Hofstra University and became a Certified Personal Trainer/Health Fitness Instructor in 2000 and was later certified by the American Council on Exercise.

In 2002 I studied Thai Massage with Royal Thai Medical Massage Master Maria Pattane. This training was complimented by clinical massage studies at the Institute for Therapeutic Massage – University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey campus. Thus becoming certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork in 2004.

In 2009, at age 50, I received certification as an Intrinsic Coach, with an emphasis on health coaching.

That being said, without you this history is but dry bones and my diplomas withering papers. Allow me to be of service in sharing with you the art of lifestyle medicine.

When you shine, I shine,

Kazi ; )
