Recently, yours truly was honored to lead a Tai Chi workshop at Newark City Hall, as part of their 2nd Beth Challenge.
The Beth Challenge,” is a successful weight loss program and contest designed by Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and offered to municipal employees to reduce their weight, improve their health, and helps them to achieve healthy changes in their lifestyle.
The three-part, 12-week Weight Loss and Fitness Challenge, which started in 2009, includes education and fitness training under the supervision of a registered dietitian/certified personal trainer from NBIMC.
Since the program began in 2009, employees of NBIMC have lost more than 7,000 pounds and Beth partners have lost more than 3,000 pounds.
I must admit, I was a bit surprised at the number of employees that turned out for the workshop during their lunch hour. I led the 20+ employees in a series of Tai Chi warm ups and basic exercises that improve flexibility, reduce stress, strengthen the legs and supports immune function. All of the attendees participated enthusiastically and remained for the lively Q & A session following the exercise and demonstration.
Special thanks to Kecia Daniels – Personnel Director at Newark City Hall for inviting me to be a presenter. I am confident that this Beth Challenge will be an even greater success than the first.
Congratulations! Your expertise will surely help people get back their “chi.”
